Mark Klappe is a contemporary abstract painter. His works are experimental and intuitive. Automatic writing coexists with deliberate interventions. His modus operandi consists of a continuing proces of going back and forth between free association, through automatic writing, and a graphical approach of restructuring. The works are carefuly build by adding layers. Erasing and redrawing. Constructing and reconstructing. The images are an analog reflection on our digital times and a longing for something different and more beyond the surface of the image. His works are inspired by architecture, maps, music and his own travels through nature and cities.
